Founded in 2006 by Darren Hawkes, Wheelbarrow has established a reputation for high quality work carried out by a team of fun loving, creative and friendly individuals all of whom share Darren’s passion and appreciation of craftsmanship and detail. We continue to push ourselves to learn more and in turn offer a better service to our customers.
We create and manage large scale rebuilds, providing everything from site clearance and excavation through to planting and furnishing all with one point of contact. We work with different designers and architects and for clients who need some guidance, we are happy to interpret less detailed briefs. We work to the highest of standards, maintaining order throughout what can be a messy process, ensuring a safe and accessible site.
Whatever the job; pruning, mowing, mulching or getting on our knees to keep borders weed free, we always work to best horticultural practice. We love to maintain gardens that we’ve built, helping to manage plants as they establish themselves and develop the garden as envisaged. That said, we are more than happy to do one off tidy’s, tame unwieldy jungles or breath new life into more established gardens.
We take a common sense approach to planting, ‘right plant for the right place’. Not only does this give us and you more time to enjoy your garden but means less wasted water and less need for artificial feeds. We are happy to advise on planting schemes and regularly source plants from all over Europe.
We love detail and enjoy working on bespoke items for gardens either making in-house or liaising with fabricators, sculptors, artists and even boat builders. Our appreciation of craftsmanship is a seam that runs through all aspects of our work, whether it’s the detailing of a paving pattern or the care taken on pruning an old climbing rose we know its the details that matter.
Darren Hawkes Landscapes, our partner company, is the design practice that grew out of Wheelbarrow’s success. Darren works with clients both locally where Wheelbarrow provides the landscaping services and with those further afield on purely a design basis.Click here for more details.

” A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in – what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars. “
